Volunteers Needed

Hey ALFN Community! We are in need of a few more volunteers this Saturday on the early and late morning shift. Sign up for one (or both!) and earn free membership or food from the market. Thanks!

Market Reminder

Hey Everyone!

Don’t forget to place your orders on the market before noon, and to sign up to be a volunteer for this weekend.

Market

Hope everyone is staying warm and dry this Sunday! We apologize if you didn’t get this email at noon, or if this is a duplicate email. Our website hit a snag and seems to have not sent the market email to some folks when it was originally posted.

The Market is open. We’re all about Geek Eat’s Carrot Curry Hummus this week. They also carry a variety of other flavors, including Rosemary Black Bean and Cilantro Almond Pesto. Mhmmm! Perfect for snack time.

Volunteer: Earn credit and membership for your account by volunteering during our Saturday market.

On the blog today is a great article from longtime ALFN volunteer and board member, Cathi Watkins:

Personally, I volunteer because online ordering helps me plan weekly meals, and I want ALFN to thrive in spite of increasing market pressure… continue reading

Happy Sunday!

The Market is open. Be on the lookout for our newest vendor, Amandaland Farms. She will be selling delicious microgreens and sharing recipes to inspire a meal full of this delicious vegetable confetti.

The Green Groceries program has been running strong all summer long, but that’s not the only way we support the hungry in our community. Next time you’re shopping consider buying one of the items marked donation on our site. These are sent to Our House shelter every week and greatly appreciated!

On the blog today is a great article on starting your fall garden by our own Nancy Dockter of Great Day Natural Produce.

It is time high time to prepare a fall garden space. Most fall crops are planted late August through mid-October, so the sooner the soil is turned and amendments added, the better… continue reading

Happy Sunday!

The Market is open. We have plenty of summer treats, including Loblolly ice cream (we highly recommend the salted caramel – yum!) and delicious watermelons.

Thank you to everyone who was able to volunteer on Saturday at the Watermelon Crawl. The Green Groceries program was able to harvest enough watermelons to send all of their participants home with one this Tuesday!

This Thursday the Southern Center For Agroecology is hosting a Pickled Okra Canning Workshop at Natural Grocers. The workshop starts at 6pm, and you can reserve your spot online.

We also have another great volunteer opportunity this weekend at the Watermelon Crawl in Scott, AR benefiting the Green Groceries program and the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance. Watermelon Crawl is a great way to do good and have a fun time doing it. The Alliance staff and volunteers will be going into the field at Scott Melons and More to glean watermelon for food banks and pantries in central Arkansas. The hay truck will head out at 9:00 am, so don’t be late.

Bring your garden gloves and sturdy shoes, bug spray and competitive spirit for this morning of gleaning, games, music, food and fun. Teams will compete for prizes, and we welcome organizations to participate. Cold water and breakfast will be provided.
